What to expect

After the convenient hotel pickup in an air-conditioned coach, sink into a comfortable seat for the journey up the mountain. Make a stop at the Kula Lodge Marketplace where you can experience the art and culinary talents of Maui and Hawaii’s renowned artists and craftsmen.

After a stop at the Haleakala Park Visitor Center at about 7,000 feet (2,134m), make the final, winding, push towards the volcano’s magnificent summit. The crater overlook is just below the summit at 9,740 feet (2,969m), and there’s a good chance you’ll be one of the only people there. Gaze upon the colorful crater with its smooth, lunar cinder cones, and peer across the orange horizon to the peaks of the Big Island in the distance. After staying to watch the stars twinkle high above the volcano, you will begin your descent the mountain with the evening concluding with a convenient drop-off right back at your hotel.

Most beautiful sunset. The view at the top of Haleakala was worth the long ride to the top. Our guide, Mitchel, was very knowledgeable and narrated the entire trip. Be prepared, it is very windy and cold at the top. Polynesian Adventure Tours is top notch. They will pick you up at your hotel. Our tour was called - Haleakala Sunset Tour - A Spectacular Show

Comfortable Experience with the Best Tour Guide David did a great job telling us the history of Hawaii and Haleakala on the way to the crater and sunset tour. We were fortunate to have good weather on the way and even as we arrived at the ranger station and fog rolled in it was only a short while before it cleared away and allowed us to view a beautiful sunset. The transportation vehicle was very comfortable and practically new. Several other different tours we had taken had less than good suspension and comfort in the days before this one making for a rough ride. We appreciated David's knowledge and well travelled experience of the world very much. He made us feel like family with many conversations in route. Bring a jacket as the temperature was in the high 40's F and windy!

Unprofessional pickup and drop off The driver (Patrick) was 15 minutes late. He claimed ONLY 13 and that this was within a 'claimed' 15 minute window. NO APOLOGY!When we set meeting times, we expect people to be on time (or contact us with an ETA). NOT PROFESSIONAL!You had us meet several miles from where we stayed; while, your competitors picked up customers AT THE EXACT SAME PLACE THAT WE WERE STAYING (50 Hauoli Street)!

not worth the money or time I wish we knew more what to expect along the way. The first driver never spoke to us so we had no idea what was going on. For us, it was a very long and boring ride both on the way as well as on the way home. Thenview at the top cleared quite well while we were there so that was nice and we got some pretty pictures. I would never spend $400 + for that again, i recommend going by yourself and reserving park passes well in advance.
